The 2019 Holiday Season
I truly cannot believe that another year has already come to pass, and we celebrate our second holiday season back in the United States and living in Chicago. It marks the beginning of the end of our time living in the UAE two years ago, and it seems like time has been on fast-forward. Between friends coming into town the weekend before Thanksgiving, heading to PA for the family celebrations (and catching up with many friends too, hooray!) and leaving Adam there for camp for 2 weeks, more visitors (YAY for Marie from the UAE!!!!!), a long weekend to Milwaukee and then to Michigan to catch up with our Pennock crew, THEN Christmas and New Year…wowza, a wonderful whirlwind finals months of incredible people.
With me having to work the days before and after Christmas and New Year, we opted to continue our regular tradition of nostalgia of when Adam’s grandmothers were still with us and the holidays were spent celebrating over family and food at both of their homes. Adam roasted a prime rib and made Gram Bert’s spaetzle, while I made Gram Helen peanut butter balls and Gram Bert cracker creme pie. It was amazing, and we were even lucky to have Allison share in the delicious occasion. Spoiler: she loved the Gram Bert pie so much that she had a WHOLE piece, AND took the recipe and made it when she got back to San Francisco!

And with that, our 2019 came to a beautiful and peaceful close. It was such a wonder-FULL year of settling in, establishing routine, and rebuilding our continental US life.
