Pilatus- Luzern

To Luzern, Switzerland we went to explore the Pilatus, the steepest cog railway in the world.

It is an awesome mode of slow transportation into the Alps, as you get to enjoy the incredible views as you ascend to (and eventually descend from) the Kulm. You could save the money and not use the cog, and do as many were doing, and hike the 6-8 hours to the top. As much as we hike, passing those who were doing the hike, I am pretty sure that it would have taken us more like 8-10 hours because it is SO steep, the paths incredibly winding, and the in-shape-ness of the people doing the hike were some of the most fit people I have ever seen!

It the top is almost a fortress wide expanse, now a hotel and few restaurants, along with many paths to explore. We went from 75 degrees at the base to 35 degrees at the top, so we were fortunate that Peter had extra winter coats on hand!

This is a “must experience” in the area, as the views….when the clouds would let you peek through…were everything picturesque that you always see captured in travel pictures of the Alps.

What is a trip to the mountains without traditional wienerschnitzel at a traditional local pub? SOOOO delicious!

The remainder of the evening was spent working on things (and their English translation for the wedding, while the boys disappeared to play with Peter’s Porsche.
