A Kentucky Affair — Life of the Mayers

After landing on the ground in September, from our escape to Europe, we busied ourselves moving our life from storage at my parent’s house in New Hampshire, to our temporary apartment in Chicago and all of the background things to start my new job in October (more details on all of this soon!).

One of my bestest friends from Abu Dhabi, Allison (who people often think is my sister), was getting married. As the groom was from Kentucky, and our social life loves good times and good libations, it made sense that she would be getting married at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Lexington, KY. This was Adam’s ultimate wedding location ever, and a wedding that he was entirely too excited to get to! That and we were going to have a reunion with our Abu Dhabi crew coming in from all over the place!!!

As I was in the bridal party, there were things to be done with that, but overall it was just an amazing weekend of great friends. We all descended on a beautiful Friday afternoon, and filled an evening with bar hopping and whiskey tasting. The day before the wedding was spent at Lexington Downs enjoying horse racing and losing money, while sipping on fancy drinks, followed by an evening of rehearsal dinners with bar hopping and whiskey sipping to follow.

The day of the wedding was a flurry of make-up and hair (with ample champagne, of course) at the salon, and general wedding prep festivities. I had a really nice time getting to know the other important women in Allison’s life, as we have all come in over different phases and locations. The wedding was absolutely gorgeous, and thoroughly fun. The sky opened up immediately prior to the outdoor ceremony, leaving a scramble of chair wiping, but it cooled everything down a bit, and made for beautiful skies for the vows themselves.

It was absolutely soul quenching to celebrate love and to spend time with some of the most incredible people in our lives.
