Shenandoah National Park
If you haven’t already read it, please read *THIS* first, as I just jump right in
We departed Johnstown, PA for Winchester, VA to be poised to start Shenandoah bright and early the following day. This is not a long drive, so for the evening we explored Old Town (Winchester), dining on some delicious BBQ at Mission BBQ (it turns out that this place is a small chain, but it definitely doesn’t seem like a chain, and should be a place that you stop at!), and beer sampling at Alesation Brewery.
After stopping at the gate to purchase our Annual National Parks Pass, we were off! Over the course of 5 hours, we slowly drove the 105 miles of Skyline Drive from Front Royal to Waynesboro. Unfortunately, it was a bit early for spring, so there was no greenery to be had and the waterfalls were still frozen. Fortunately, there was no greenery so the views were spectacular! Also, it felt like we had the place to ourselves, as we seldom car another car the entire time, and there were more people biking than driving. It definitely seems “the place to be” if you are into road or mountain biking.
We ended our day sampling flights and kombucha at Basic City Brewery, followed by dinner at The Fishin’ Pig (BBQ, of course).
