Hello, we are the Mayers.

We are a couple who are passionate about living a meaningful life filled with awesome relationships with real people, exploring new cultures/cities/countries in this huge yet small world, eating incredible food, and experiencing all the things that life has to offer.

Merida Mexico Bachelorette Party

Merida Mexico Bachelorette Party

It is the Year of Weddings!

The first occassion to celebrate all of the festivities, was bachelorette trip adventure (just Lea, not Adam) to the gorgeous city of Merida, Mexico, to celebrate the upcoming nuptuals (and recent completion of nursing school!) of our beloved friend Sara. Without any direct flights, there were 11 of us descending in from all over the US and different time periods, and most of us had a layover in Houston at the same time, so we started the festivities there!

AbuDC Reunited: Me, Debbie, and our beloved bachelorette Sara!

Of note, Priority Pass gives you access to the Air France Lounge in Houston, and it is perfect (since there was a 5 hour layover)!

We didn’t arrive until evening, so we shared a taxi to our gorgeous AirBnb (Casa Maktub) and then hit the town for dinner!

It was one of the best meals of my life, and probably my favorite of the trip….aguachile and tacos for life! Catrin has both indoor and outdoor seating, but I HIGHLY recommend the back outdoor patio with it’s live music and light show. Did I mention the food was TO.DIE.FOR!????!

Our first full day, we were spoiled with a chef-prepared traditional breakfast at the house, that smelled so good as it was cooking and looked so good being set out, that I forgot to take the time to capture with pictures! We then boarded our private bus for a relaxing beach day excursion. There is just something so soul quenching and soothing about warm breeze on the face, toes in the sand, the sound of crashing waves, and the feel of floating in water. It water is my happy place.

This was followed by a relaxing late afternoon at the house before another awesome dinner excursion and exploration of the beautiful downtown. Our meal at Apoloa was awesome for a group dinner!

Our second full day also started with the chef knocking it out of the park with breakfast. This was followed by a private tour with the most awesome guide, to explore a traditional hacienda in the midst of restoration, followed by two ceynote tours with lunch hosted at the second one.

The hacienda was beautiful, and the “tree of life” was absolutely captivating and memorizing…I kept coming back to it just to stare up through it.

The first ceynote inspired a fire in my soul, and I did my first cliff jump ever. I. about gave myself a stroke getting the nerve to jump, and I don’t know that I ever honestly found it, but I jumped. It. was. amazing. God, the adrenaline rush. Full transparency, I landed straight-bodied, but at an angle, and somehow my tailbone got bruised quite badly…worth it, but yeah, sitting is still quite rough more than a week later! The swimming was so refreshing, and the water with the light filtering through was absolutely stunning.

The second ceynote was also amazing. There was small restaurant at its top that our tour guide arranged us to have lunch at, and it was the most incredible meal…somehow so seemingly simple, but the flavors were SO complex.

Our late afternoon was spent resting and hanging out, before a lovely final evening in with a prepared traditional dinner by the same chef preparing our breakfasts. We also surprised Sara with the custom tshirts that we all wore for the evening.
