Hello, we are the Mayers.

We are a couple who are passionate about living a meaningful life filled with awesome relationships with real people, exploring new cultures/cities/countries in this huge yet small world, eating incredible food, and experiencing all the things that life has to offer.

Now that I am firmly a year behind in this blog…shockingly so. It is my commitment for this month to catch up. I am not sure where this past year has gone, but it has been one incredible blur.

June-July 2018: We planted ourselves here for two whole weeks, as Adam had firmly launched his business, and needed some quiet time to work, and we needed to slow down and be still for a bit, as we had been nomads for 6 straight months. Fortunately for us, my awesome Uncle Neal (hey there!) has a condo in DC that he was not going to be using for this timeframe, and generously allowed us to crash there. During this time, we were also able to catch up with our Abu Dhabi family that transitioned to the DC crew. Besides us and Allison, everyone from our US crew in Abu Dhabi moved back to the US and settled in the DC metro area.

One of our favorite couples on the planet went and had an awesome kiddo, so we landed in DC just in time to properly celebrate Noah’s first year of life. He went from being this so-tiny newborn that I held in 2017 when we came back for Michael and Johnna’s wedding, to this incredible small person that we love SO much. Elena and Johan rocked the 1st bday celebration at a local brew pub and EVERYONE, child and non-child, had a wonderful time!

We also ventured up to Columbia to catch up with our Pennock clan for few days. It is always so interesting to go back to places that you have lived, where so much is different yet the same. Columbia was where Adam and I first moved together when we graduated college and were getting our lives established together. It was also near here that we moved back to after Hawaii. These few days were just spent catching back up with Jake, Sarah, and loving up on my Pennock babies (not babies). Grateful that our lives are filled with the wonderful little guys growing up to be amazing humans.

And then back to DC where it was a proper reunion and almost everyone was in town! A full long weekend of everyone being together from dawn to dawn <3

Thank god for Uber XLs that could get us all around at once!

The icing on the cake of a wonderful couple of weeks relaxing and catching up, was watching the World Cup game with my cousin Jason and his wife Kayla, while making Welcome Home signs to greet my Uncle Neal (Jason’s dad) at the airport with. Unfortunately, Uncle Neal was the first off the plane, and ahead of everyone else when getting to the arrivals area…so his level of embarrassment wasn’t quite as high as we were hoping…but we still got him pretty good. He put his head down and walked right past us initially, so mortified, but then came around and had to catch the moment for posterity.

It’s a wonderful life.
